Peek inside the Wine Country estate that TV writer and producer Steven Bochco and his widow made as their escape from Hollywood.

If you were a rich and famous Hollywood writer and producer, where would you buy a second home to get away from Tinseltown?

Steven Bochco, who developed a number of hit television series, including “Hill Street Blues,” “L.A. Law,” “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” and “NYPD Blue,” knew exactly where he wanted his to be.

Bochco’s wife Dayna told Bloomberg that, after spending years staying in hotels as the couple explored the Napa Valley area, they finally decided to settled into a French country-style Wine Country estate on 47 acres in Oakville in 2008.

The European-style estate, originally built in 2002, is nestled at the crest of the Mayacamas ridge line and features vistas of natural geography and rolling vineyards.

The home has outdoor entertaining areas including patios, trellises and a large pool and is a close drive to Napa Valley restaurants and wineries, including the the famous Opus One Winery.

The main residence offers 4,600 square feet of living and features three bedrooms suites, a powder room, kitchen with breakfast nook, a great room, three fireplaces, a library/media room and a formal dining room.

The master suite is on the main level and has French doors opening to the property’s maintained grounds. The gardens and entertainment areas include multiple covered outdoor dining areas, a pool deck with spa overlooking Napa Valley and a mature olive grove.

A guest house, added in 2009 by the Bochcos, features about 1,000 square feet and offers a living room and two additional bedroom suites.

In 2014, Steven Bochco was diagnosed with leukemia. He died in 2018. Now, Dayna is putting the house on the market, listing it for $8.5 million with Ginger Martin of Sotheby’s International Realty and Hillary Ryan of Compass as the listing agents.
